Media Glossary

Context

The context is the information which is given before you start a task so you have a guide to what you’re doing. Furthermore, it gives a better understanding of the task.

Research

Is normally done after you have been given the context of your project. It is the independent study that’s done to get more of an understanding go the given task. It can also be done to get new or expand ideas.

Problem Solving

This is when you face problem during the task and you need to find an away to solve it. You can always doing trial and error or you can also find a tutorial on YouTube. This also includes problems to do with other stuff like logging in or even having issues with equipment such as cameras.

Planning and Production

Planning is when you start to brain storm ideas on what you want to do for your project, planning also includes creating sketches and making drafts and templates that you work with or work around next time. The production stage is when you pick one or two of your ideas and start working on it.

Pratical Skill

The skill that you learn/gain during the process of production. They are individual skills that build up to one final production.

Evaluation and Reflection

The evaluation stage is when you look over your work and reflect on what you did. This can be what you done during the week and what you achieved. Furthermore, its where you get to write about what went well during the week and what could have gone better.

Presentation

The presentation is where you have completed all the tasks above and then you chose how to layout your work. This can be done on PowerPoint and then embedded on to your site or even just lay it directly on to your website.

Collaboration 

The process of joining with two or more people and creating content or a new product, this can also be done to achieve a new goal or even to complete a task.

Tangible

Being able to see and touch the physical product.

Intangible

This is a service that can’t be touched such as a game or even a social media platform.

Primary Research

This is the research that you personally do. this type of research can be done in many different ways such as filling out surveys, focus groups, interviews and even experiments. This type of research has both benefits and disadvantages, the benefits being that they are specific to your needs and you control the quality. The disadvantages of this type of research is that it can cost a lot of money as well as the cost it can also take up much time.

Secondary Research

Secondary research is the research that is done and completed by someone else. This research is carried out by looking for articles on the internet, or watching videos as well as that you can also read book and magazines to find out information. This process is normally quick, however the Information can be outdated and it may not reach your needs.

Value

Is the degree of light and dark in a design. It is the contrast between black and white and all the tones in between. Value can be used with colour as well as black and white. Contrast is the extreme changes between values.

Space

Is the area between and around objects. Increasing or decreasing the amount of space around an object affects the way we view that object.

Colour

Differentiates and defines lines, shapes, forms, and space. Even black and white images have a huge number of different shades of grey.
